Brief Description Of Project:

Fleming College needs a website to showcase all applied projects done by both Technology and Business department students. This website will helps the students to have knowledge about different projects which are held in the school. The college needs a website which is something professional, user friendly, efficient and it can be accessible by any individual. Project is al about developing the website to keep track of all the applied projects. This website will be a complete repository of all Technology and Business department  projects for the Fleming Innovation virtual showcase sponsored by Bell.

Project Objective:

  • To develop open source website.
  • A repository of all Technology and Business Department Projects, which aids for the virtual showcase.
  • This website will serve as a tool to attract other new sponsors for various Applied projects.
  • Need to develop a user-friendly website with a SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
  • Should be accessible in any kind of platform.
  • Each Applied project must be accompanied with the complete information such as the Developer profile, videos explaining the status of the project.

Project Innovation:

  • We developed our website using WordPress Technology which uses the PHP programming language. We selected WordPress, due to its easiness to work with.
  • WordPress had predefined structures and it is completely customizable as per our client requirements.
  • We have used three different plugins: Ultimate members ( for creating the various roles), Capabilities ( to manage those roles) and Custom fields plugins (to create fields and manage them).
  • Our website  is been hosted in Digital Ocean.

Challenges & Solutions:

  • We faced was to complete our goals within specified time frame amidst of this current pandemic situation.
  • Faced  issues in sending email with username & Password once the team is registered in our website. However, we fixed this issue. A auto generated email is sent to all team members once they register in our website.
  • While working on with our WordPress, we had many issues such as editing the text box size, limiting text, styling contents, as we are using WordPress Core function and it is hard to change those settings.
  • We couldn’t change capabilities core function for set validation when teams will add project.
  • One of the major issue we faced is when we changed the hosting site of our website. Due to storage issues, website was changed to Digital Ocean. We lost our contents in our website. We added the contents again and was able to fix those issues.

Project Results or Progress:

We developed a website where it has all the project details of the Technology and Business department. Teams can register in our website and then add their team details and project details. We have provided fields, in which some are mandatory to be filled. These project information will be taken as a base for judging for the virtual showcase. In addition to their project details, we have added fields to add the image and short bio for all team members, so that judges will have better idea on project and team members working on it.
