Brief Description Of Project:

Peterborough County Emergency App.  is an Android application developed for the residents and Visitors of Peterborough County for serving as a self guide for Pre-preparedness in Emergency situations. It is an App. Version of the existing website, which is sufficient to operate without an internet connectivity.

Project Objective:

To design an easy-to-use Android application, suitable for the users of all age groups, Providing insight to the official Self-Preparedness guide from the Emergency Management Department of Peterborough County.


Project Innovation:

  • An offline version of Application allows access to the resources without the need of internet connectivity and web links to other resources which are available online only.
  • Two language support (English and French) to cover a broader user base.
  • Divided the process of preparing the Emergency kits into small and easy-to-follow steps.
  • The feature of session Handling allows user to save the information within the App, as well as making it easy to mark the progress.
  • Map Provides locations and visual data of all the Emergency services.

Challenges & Solutions:

  • Grouping information.
  • Adding Dual language Functionality.
  • Providing the Application in French.
  • Including the Map.
  • Designing the application suitable to be used without the internet connectivity, along with providing access to additional resources over the web.

Project Results or Progress:

  • We successfully developed an Android application in offline version, Categorizing the information in an appropriate manner and tried to use fewer icons to avoid confusion while navigating within the Application.
  • English and French language support was provided to overcome the language barrier and maximizing the userbase.
  • Municipal contact information of all the 8 member Municipalities of Peterborough County and the First Nation Towns were included in the Application.
  •  Weblinks to the online resources of the Department of Emergency Management, Peterborough County were added.
  • A map section, highlighting the locations of  Emergency Services was added to the Application to provide a visual data of their locations and easy directions.

  • Dividing the development process according to the member skillset and merging it to get a required outcome.
  • Testing the finished product and working on eliminating the bugs encountered, to increase the working potential of Team.
