Brief Description Of Project:

As a student, instructor, and program coordinator Fleming college offers so many Assets to them so this website will support all users with the information of different hardware and software. This website has all the information of the tools and software including their locations, lab manuals, user manuals, description of the asset, supplier information, and the QR code of each and every asset.  This website provides the coordinators an ease to add, edit or delete any information regarding the assets. In addition to this, this website provides a booking feature to book the Hardware for a particular time slot to the college instructors and Coordinators. The link to this website is http://assetmanagement.flemingdomains.ca/

Project Objective:

  • To design a website for three different users with two levels of access.
  • To make a User-Friendly website that is compatible with mobile and easily accessible by all the users. This website can be accessed from a mobile phone as well as a computer system.
  • Every section of the website should be categorized, aligned, and well presented.
  • Access is given to the Coordinators and instructors of the School of trade and technology and the School of business and information however, students and a guest can also use the website to access the tools and software.
  • This website will give a platform for adding the information of tools and software so that the professors can have all the data regarding the assets used in the labs.
  • Easygoing with the database, its backup, and maintenance.  Coordinators have full access to modify and add the information by using the prebuild forms created on the website.
  • The features such as the booking hardware option, return emails, search asset bar, and QR codes for the Assets will make the website user-friendly.

Project Innovation:

  • Prior to this website being developed, it was really difficult for the students and faculty members to look for the hardware and software resources and have access to it.
  • The team ShineAces has built this platform which facilitates the information of software and hardware assets used in different programs.
  • This platform is very beneficial with attractive features to search for information for the respective asset.
  • We have created forms in such a way that the user can add the data very easily.
  • Admin panel was designed in such a way that the admin can have an eye on the whole website, Admin can see all the current users, list of all the assets along with its information. also, the admin has the list of all the bookings for the hardware by the users.
  • The creation of QR codes for all the assets is designed in such a way that these QR codes can be scanned from a mobile camera and even downloaded with a single click.
  • The Booking hardware feature will provide ease to the instructor and coordinator to book any hardware on their respective date and time.
  • We have made each part of the website user-friendly, attracted and responsive by keeping that in mind that this website should be beneficial to the users.

Challenges & Solutions:

  • In this project, we have faced some challenges related to Technical problems, Communication problems, and some challenges in the team itself however, we found some solutions to overcome all the challenges.
  • Coding was a challenge to most of the teammates as each member belongs to a different study background. All the members shared the resources, links, references, Linkedin tutorials, youtube tutorials, and their knowledge to help other teammates. Once any page is designed by anyone the teammate explained the logic, working, and design to others.
  • We faced some problems in team coordination as the project was all virtual and it is obvious that eight members will have their idea, perspectives, and thinking. We choose the one idea which has most of the benefits for our project. Regular Team meetings help us to maintain the team coordination.
  • In the technical part, we faced problems in linking the front end pages with the back end. The solution to this problem was team discussions where each member explained their work to other members so that others will understand each page quickly and link them with each other.
  • Last but not the least, The Booking Hardware and cancel Hardware option was a challenge to us but with proper research on corn jobs, the scheduling process, and team discussions we complete that form.

Project Results or Progress:

  • We are happy to announce that the project achieved all the goals successfully and get approved by the sponsor.
  • This project results in developing the skills of the team which will benefit all of us in a corporate world.
  • Due to this project, our team has learned to work in a team in a professional manner and acquire qualitative and quantitative skills.
  • This project leads to the development of a user-friendly and easily accessible website.
  • This website is beneficial to the members of the school of trade and technology and the school of business and information.
  • Results in giving different levels of access to the coordinators and the instructors.
  • All the tasks related to the project are completed before the deadlines.
  • Successfully conquered all the milestones and fulfilled all the requirements of the mentor and sponsor.
  • Now, the website is live and the sponsor and mentor of our project has the access to the website.

Lessons Learned:

  • Working on a project in a group is not an easy task. Here this project has two teams one working for the front end and one working in the back end. Collaborating ideas from two different teams was really difficult but we all learned the values, teamwork, understanding, patience, and communication for exchanging the ideas. We are able to complete this project as all the team members accomplished their roles and their part of the work.
  • We gained coding and designing skills by learning and working with different programming languages such as JAVA, CSS, HTML for designing the front end, and for the back end we learned and worked with the SQL, MySql, and PHPMyAdmin. Learned to link different web pages, front end with backend and the login pages with the admin panel.
  • Acquiring programming skills is an easy task, the most important thing we learn is the implementation and designing. We learn to think beyond the boundaries in order to have a good design.
