Brief Description Of Project:

This project is a Website Development for the Lucky Strike Bait Works Company located in Peterborough. The website is a fishing lure based work order tracking system meant to be used within the company. One of the main aims of the website is to avoid the traditional paperwork done in the work order tracking and to switch into a real-time online environment. Alongside, the website has an advanced graphical experience that is compatible with any platform and services related to the work orders.

Project Objective:

The objective of this project was to develop a real-time work order tracking website. Some of the major parameters that paved the way to success and client satisfaction is as follows:

  •  Real-time work order Tracking website.
  • Sorting option based on department, priority.
  •  Work order and Bills of Materials upload option in Excel Sheet Format.
  • Work order transfer between six departments.
  • Work order priority updation.
  • Viewing Bills Of Materials from Stock Keeping Unit Hyperlink.
  • Compatible with an iPad Platform.

Project Innovation:

We did our research well and chose to use open-source platforms which are thriving and long-lasting in our project. For our Prototype model of the website, we have used the Figma interface design tool and showed our sponsor what we are capable of doing and they were quite impressed with it and approved it. For the storage of the data from the website, we have used the Mongo database program which is also an open-source platform making it cost-effective for our client. When we faced a major roadblock in connecting to a warehouse management software called RF Pathways and the project was stalled, we as a team came up with an alternative solution which lead to the successful completion of the Project.

Challenges & Solutions:

As a team, we have encountered many obstacles and challenges throughout the Project.  After getting the project charter signed, our client initiated a Change Request to the primary deliverable and upon review agreed we could implement it and we successfully did. At approximately 60% completion of the project, we encountered a major roadblock in connecting with the RF Pathways Warehouse Management system which would have completely halted the project, but we came up with a solution and executed it in a space of a month for which our clients were most impressed.

Project Results or Progress:

As a team, we have met all the Sponsor’s requirements which guided us to the success of the project and signing off. Some of them are:

1. A  work order tracking website was developed.

2. Sorting options based on the department and priority.

3. Priority updating feature for each work order.

4. New excel work order and bills of materials sheet upload option.

5. Showcasing bills of materials from the SKU hyperlink.

6. Sponsor acceptance and immediate use in Production.

Lessons Learned:

A major change in our Project occurred very late but we still are able to complete our Project within our proposed deadline. This shows us our adaptability to change and change control management. We have also come across a few major roadblocks at the end which would have cost the successful completion of the project, but we as a team were organized and composed and met the deadline. The roadblocks have happened due to the miscommunication with the Client during the requirements gathering, so if there is a next time, we would put more effort and time into the accurate gatherings of requirements. We have also learned that communication with the client and the team members is the most integral part of the successful completion of the Project.
