That's a wrap catering

Brief Description Of Project:

That’s a wrap catering being a small catering business in Peterborough city is facing reduced sales because of low awareness levels about the business and due to the ongoing global pandemic, which has resulted in closing of offices and celebration of events or get togethers. We as a team is creating a marketing plan to generate awareness about the catering business by giving her ideas for improvement of Virtual workshop experience along with focusing on attracting customers by introducing different food deals and making the food ordering process easier.

Project Objective:

Generate awareness of That’s a Wrap Catering by creating and implementing a marketing plan

  • Due to restrictions and closing of offices the numbers of orders for the catering business reduced. Because of this, Tracey would like to develop plan for attracting more customers through the help of virtual platforms like delivering virtual workshops and modifying the online ordering process.
  • Tracey has an expertise in her culinary skills; however, she feels that she is uncomfortable and unfamiliar with the technological aspect and therefore wants our team to help her with technology for example feedback on technological aspect of the workshop, updating her website etc.

Project Innovation:

As one of Tracey’s requirements was to make the virtual workshop more engaging and enjoyable by providing valuable feedback. We have given her ideas and thoughts on the ways she can make the workshop booking easy by adding the following:

  1.  full month calendar so that the customer can also see the upcoming workshopsadd the details of the different workshop (as all the workshops had different recipes)
  1. duration for all the workshops
  1. some technical aspects for zoom video meeting (pin the chef to have a better video, sound adjustments, light reflections due to steel table)
  1.  ideas for the promotion of workshop through social media and through the official website of that’s a wrap catering
  1. explore events like Eventbrite so that lot of people who are from different cities and unknown about business can also access to workshop

Another requirement of attracting customers, one of our idea was to organize a ‘Weekly Wrap Day’ where any individual can order a wrap getting a bag of chips complementary. The Wrap Day will be every week at a specific day and time focusing on individual and/or group orders. This is still in progress.

Challenges & Solutions:

Challenge #1 – At the initial stage (in semester 3) the project deliverables were organizing a virtual workshop hosted by the sponsor herself having two different categories of participants that is experienced (familiar with cooking) and the people who are fond of cooking but lacks knowledge. But at the start of Semester 4, we came to know she had already organized and scheduled the workshop with her own business team. The challenge was a big change in project deliverables as before the team was preparing for the virtual workshop.

Solution – Team contributed to improving the virtual workshop experience by providing feedback on the session by attending her workshops. The feedback included modifying the workshop booking process, some technical issues like pinning the chef in zoom video call, etc.

Challenge #2 – Due to the existing situation of pandemic the business saw a sales reduction because of restrictions on social gatherings so she had developed some other ideas to keep serving her existing customers. One of her ideas was a Monthly Wrap Day where a group of minimum 10 people can order wraps (three different choices) getting a packet of chips as complementary. The order must be on any fixed day of every month as per their choice. What team believed was focusing on group was due to minimizing the cost and making additional profit but serving individuals was being neglected which could be beneficial too.

Solution – What team offered was to launch a weekly Wrap Day program where a Wrap can be ordered by any individual on a fixed day in a week and having a fixed time period of the day. The reason behind fixing a day and a particular time was having workforce problem and busyness with other ongoing daily routine. Team is still working with sponsor to finalize price and delivery system of the orders.

Project Results or Progress:

Project Results or Progress:

Following were the result of our work to date:

  • The feedback for the virtual workshop resulted in making the booking process easier. One of our idea was to pin Chef in zoom video meeting which turned out in better view for the participants as after pinning the video remain focused on chef irrespective of whoever speaks.
  • We suggested her to update the website and include all the details on virtual workshops, special deals, daily offers, that’s a wrap menu, etc. Also, she is planning to make the website as a common platform for customers to make orders directly so that no orders can be missed.
  • The idea of weekly wrap day is accepted, and she wanted to implement this idea to focus on individual along with the group orders.

Lessons Learned:

Lessons Learned

  • Risk can occur in any forms; it can be a pandemic where any business can hit in different way. We learned a true entrepreneur is one who changes the risk in an opportunity as our sponsor did by taking the business to an online and virtual platform.
  • The confirmation email for one of workshops booking went to junk folder and we did not realize it. We just assumed that we did not got any confirmation email without looking for the email in junk folder. We learned it is better to check each small detail on our side rather than just assuming the things.
  • As a team we have learned lessons of coordination, time management, conflict management, planning things ahead, importance of documentation.
  • We have learned to always keep a backup plan whenever our ideas didn’t match with our sponsors requirements or whenever things didn’t go well as we have plan
