My name is Noah Latendre and I am a third-year Business Administration – Marketing student at Fleming College.  I grew up an hour east of Peterborough and have a passion for learning. I attended college so I could turn my hobbies and interests into income sources allowing me to enjoy my future working career

My name is Curtis Toms and I am a third-year marketing student at Fleming College! I have always been interested in marketing, with a focus on technology and consumer behaviour, and through the applied projects I have been involved in, I have exposed myself to and gained some experience in the related field, in which I will certainly be able to apply in my future career endeavours.

Hello there, my name is Jonathan Drover and I am a advanced standing student in my final year of Marketing at Sir Sanford Fleming College. I previously graduated from Fleming with a diploma in Sporting Goods Business. I have always had a passion for sports and marketing hence why I am taking both programs. I plan to take the knowledge and skills I’ve learned from College and apply those to my future career.

Sponsor Organisation:

Peterborough and the Kawarthas Economic Developmen

Brief Description Of Project:

Make visual and content updates to the Peterborough and Kawartha Lakes Economic Website.

Project Objective:

Problem

  • Peterborough and Kawartha Lakes Economic Development is looking for visual and content updates to their website.
  • Peterborough and Kawartha Lakes Economic Development is an information hub and hosts ample data, making it difficult for users to find specific information
  • Most website data and visuals were last updated in 2017, which does not well represent Peterborough in 2021

Outcome

  • Have information on the website updated so content is more relevant for visitors
  • Have content better organized and easier for visitors to find
  • Have visual content more relatable to Peterborough culture and lifestyle

Project Innovation:

PowerPoint Presentation (sharepoint.com)

  • “Show us your Peterborough” photo contest
  • The contest will have Peterborough residents submit photos that capture Peterborough lifestyle and culture through their unique vision
  • A panel of judges will narrow down submissions for residents to then vote for the top photos
  • Winners will receive recognition for their entries and a potential prize of monetary value

Challenges & Solutions:

  • In updating the data for the various subsections of their information website, much of the information needed was difficult to find, due to some data only being released by Statistics Canada in the Census, in 2016.
  • There was a challenge to find some of the most recent data.
  • In the initial stages of using the provided software for research and data entry/updating, it was challenging as the software was new to the group members but became more accustomed as the project continued.
  • Updating visual content like photos can be costly

Project Results or Progress:

  • Specific content that was determined to be outdated has now been updated to the most recent statistics. This new data will be replacing the outdated statistics on the website to better grow the public’s knowledge about recent local statistics and information required by the public.

Lessons Learned:

  • There is more updated and relevant data than assumed
  • Collaboration can provide additional benefits and can make projects even more efficient
